| New Federal minimum wage laws went into effect on Monday, July 24th. At that time, most employers were required to display the new minimum wage increases in a conspicuous location in the workplace. Companies that are subject to the Fair Labor Standards Act's minimum wage provisions were required to post the new rates by that date, which is the date of the first of three incremental increases in the Federal wage standard. This is the first time the Federal minimum wage has increased in 10 years. The new rate of $7.25 per hour will be implemented in three phases: The first increase to $5.85 per hour became effective on July 24th; the second increase to $6.55 per hour takes place exactly one year later; and the third increase to $7.25 per hour goes into effect on July 24, 2009.
